シャコガイに、人の顔と、翼を付けたスフィンクス、ハスの花を彫刻してあるそうです。大英博物館の解説によると、シャコガイは、紅海とインド洋産だそうです。どういうことだ？探してしまいましたが1個しかありませんし、貸し出し中というわけでもなさそう。英文が微妙に間違ってそうな気がしますけど・・・

Tridacna shell comes from the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean.The shell was carved in the eastern Mediterranean and imported into Etruria. It served as a container for cosmetics.
